SPAM® and Scalloped Potatoes

“Butter” is a great word because it kind of sounds like “better.” Which is fitting because butter does make everything better. In fact, it’s what makes potatoes better. That, and SPAM® Classic, which makes this buttery-tasting dish even better.


  • 1 (340g) can SPAM® Classic, thinly sliced
  • 3 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 3 tbsp butter or other fat
  • 1/2 cup crisp buttered breadcrumbs
  • 4 large potatoes, boiled and sliced
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 tbsp fresh parsley, minced
  • Pepper, to taste
  • Salt, to taste
  • 1 small onion, diced


  1. Heat oven to 375°F/190°C.
  2. In a saucepan, melt the butter, then add in flour, salt, and pepper.
  3. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, for 3 to 4 minutes.
  4. Add the onion, parsley, and milk.
  5. Stir until smooth, cooking until the sauce is thickened.
  6. In a casserole, alternate layers of potato and SPAM® Classic.
  7. Pour the white sauce over the top and sprinkle with breadcrumbs.
  8. Bake 30 minutes.
