Crispy SPAM® Steak

In Ancient Japan, the Emperor would have his best chefs prepare a bowl of tonkatsu (breaded pork cutlets) after a hard day of emperor-­ing. Well, sucks to be him because he never got to try our Crispy SPAM® Steaks. It’s basically tonkatsu. But with SPAM®. Which makes it a million times better.


  • 1 x340g can SPAM® Classic, sliced into 8
  • 120g all purpose flour
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 180g panko (Japanese breadcrumbs)
  • Oil for deep frying
  • Tonkotsu or sweet chili sauce for serving


  1. Preheat oil to 190⁰C.
  2. While waiting for the oil, prepare SPAM® classic.
  3. Dredge SPAM® classic slice in flour, dip in egg and then coat with bread crumbs.
  4. Repeat with the rest of the ingredients.
  5. Deep fry in oil for 3-5 minutes or until golden brown.
  6. Serve warm with sauce on the side.
